 The idea of Greek influences on Hellenistic Judaism appears to be so deeply engrained within modern scholarship that nothing could upset this apple cart, at least as reflected in two recent books various aspects magic, astronomy, and medicine Jewish sources from the Roman periods. usual frame reference relies upon paradigms clearly outlined by Saul Lieberman Martin Hengel, culture science had penetrated thinking such an extent, even Hebrew Aramaic texts Qumran or Mishnah were eventually integrated into undefined Hellenistic-Greek episteme. present review article advocates alternative Near Eastern context for Jew- ish writings period, one did not reflect Hellenism any form.
